Samsung Electronics,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the worlds second largest mobile phone maker,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], is trying to increase its market share in Finland,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the home of world market leader Nokia,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], with its new touch-screen phone called Omnia. Our goal is to get back to about 15 percent share of the cellphone market (in Finland),[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Samsung's Finland sales head Mika Engblom told Reuters news agency.
The Finnish cell phone market is dominated by Nokia,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which holds 86 percent of the market share,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], while Samsung holds a mere 6 percent. Reuters said Samsung on Friday published a study of Finns' preferences in consumer electronics and said touch screens were seen going hand in hand with ease of use. "It is quite interesting in the survey results that older people were the ones who wanted a touch screen,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," Engblom said.
Nokia is responding to Samsungs challenge with the same strategy,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], launching a new touch-screen model in the second half of this year in Finland. It is also considering a return to the Korean market,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the home of Samsung. Nokia had entered the Korean market in 2001 but withdrew in 2003 due to lagging sales performance.
